Cache Creek Storytellers

My name is David Morrison, and my connection to the Cache Creek Conservancy began as the Natural Resources Manager for Yolo County for a number of years and currently as the Assistant Director of Planning and  Public Works for a total of over 10 years.

Sarah Motley Fisher is an Episcopal priest and has been ordained for more than 30 years. She was born in Sacramento, but raised on her father’s farm in Dixon. Sarah baptized her twin boys at the Cache Creek Nature Preserve.

Salma Navarrette is a student from Plainfield Elementary School. She has been to Cache Creek Nature Preserve on school field trips.

Tim O’Halloran is a veteran of floods and water issues along Cache Creek. For the past 8 years, he has been managing the Cache Creek Watershed, making sure farms get water and the county stays safe from floods. As the general manager of the Yolo County Flood Control and Water Conservation District, Tim also works together with the Cache Creek Conservancy to help restore and maintain the creek.

Jennifer O’Neill Pickeringis a local writer and artist who has participated in the Cache Creek Writer’s Workshops at the Cache Creek Nature Preserve facilitated by Andrea Ross and then Rae Gouriand.

Sara Pearson is a student at Plainfield Elementary School and also a first-time visitor at Cache Creek Nature Preserve.

Lynnel Pollock has been involved with the Cache Creek Conservancy since its inception in 1996. She was on the board of directors when the Cache Creek Nature Preserve came into reality.

Ardith Read is a Miwok Native American  who participates in the Tending and Gathering Garden Program at the Cache Creek Nature Preserve. During this interview Ardith takes the time to share her thoughts on the  Preserve and the tradition of basket weaving. She explains how important the materials found at the Preserve are to basketry and describes how the Conservancy has offered her the opportunity to not only gather materials but to also teach a class in basketry.

Jacquelyn Ross has been a volunteer with the Tending and Gathering Garden at the CacheCreek Nature Preserve for 10 years.

Randy Sater has worked for Teichert Mining Company for many years by running their real-estate development program, Stonebridge Properties. Part of his job entails looking for ways to give back to the communities in which Teichert has operated. One particular example of this community outreach program is Teichert’s involvement in the Cache Creek Nature Preserve.
